36 Weeks
We are now at 36 weeks! BunBun is 90% complete!

You’ll notice that there is finally a crib mattress in the background of today’s photo. Even though we’ll have him sleeping in the cradle in our bedroom for the first few months, getting the crib mattress was a big “to-do” that we were happy to check off.
We’ve had some nasty weather this week. As a matter of fact, it resulted in the cancellation of the all-day birthing class we were planning to go to on Saturday. We are going to attend three night sessions over the next few weeks instead.
We’ve been distracted quite a bit by my relative’s health situation as I mentioned last week. Navigating the world of someone else’s surgery, rehab, doctor appointments, and insurance is messy business. Luckily, the arrival of BunBun in February is keeping everyone motivated!
Speaking of BunBun, we had an appointment with one of the hospital’s midwives on Monday to see how he’s doing. It was our first time meeting this particular midwife, and we love her! She was very thorough and took her time explaining answers to all of our questions. We found out that our birthing center offers wireless, waterproof baby monitoring…which is great! She also tested me for the Group B streptococcus (GBS) that day. The results were negative which means I won’t need to have penicillin via an IV during delivery.
Development
BunBun is now the size of a Cabbage Patch Kid–do they still make those?! He’s likely 19 inches long and weighs over 6 pounds. After this week, he will almost be carried to term (known as “near-term”). The rest of his time on the inside will be spent putting on fat. As of Monday, his heart rate was 140 beats per minute.
My Pregnancy Experience
The swelling continues, and I’m not sure I would sleep without Tums some nights. Overall, I’m still feeling good. I don’t think that BunBun has “dropped” lower into my pelvis yet, although some ladies I have seen this week seem to think so.
Oh! And here’s a sneak peak of a maternity photo shoot we had at 35 weeks. More pics to come next week!
