34 Weeks

Happy 2018! As of today, we are 34 weeks pregnant!

This week was pretty low key. We had a lovely belated Christmas dinner with my brothers and stepdad on Saturday. New Year’s Eve was spent on the couch, huddled under lots of blankets. Kurt’s cold seems like it’s finally on its way out, and I miraculously didn’t catch it. His situation was made worse yesterday when he caught a case of food poisoning; thankfully, it was gone this morning. We managed to put together five more interior storm windows this week–hoping they make a difference this Saturday when -5 degrees is the high!

Development

BunBun is now the size of a basketball hoop, around 18 inches long, and weighs in the neighborhood of 5 pounds. His lungs, brain, and central nervous system keep rapidly developing, and all but the lungs are reaching their final stage of development. Vernix caseosa, the slippery coating that will help BunBun move through he birth canal, is covering his body as he gets closer to delivery day. He is also peeing up to a pint a day! We had our ninth OB appointment yesterday. BunBun had a healthy heart rate of 140 beat per minute, and we learned that he’s positioned with his head down. Hopefully he stays that way!

My Pregnancy Experience

As of this morning, I no longer have braces! The lower ones that remained were removed. I’m so looking forward to the next month and a half of pregnancy without having metal in my mouth.

This is probably no surprise, but I’m still loving BunBun’s kicks. I’m pretty sure I traced the contour of a bent leg through my skin today–just amazing. It’s obvious that he is indeed approaching birth height every time he punches one side of my abdomen and simultaneously kicks the other. Only six more weeks until we get to meet this sweet little boy! (Unless he’s late, but we’re going to ignore that possibility for now.)
