30 Weeks

75% of the pregnancy is behind us! How is that possible?!

The Baby Shower a few of my friends planned for us took place on Saturday afternoon at our house. (A couple of the least blurry photos from the shower are at the bottom of this post.) It was a fun afternoon full of good advice, laughs, and lots of food!

We  had another routine doctor appointment on Tuesday. BunBun’s heart was beating at 136 beats per minute, well within the healthy 110-160 range. My blood pressure continues to be in its normal low range; this time, it was 96/64. After doing a belly measurement and feeling around a bit, the doctor estimated that BunBun would weigh about five pounds if he were born this week. To continue the good news, they informed me that my weight gain seems to have stabilized. I gained 12 pounds in October, but in the last two weeks, I only gained a couple ounces. (It might have something to do with the new gym membership and/or the lack of easy access to late-night ice cream now that all the good places are on winter hours. Womp, womp!)

We made no progress on the house this week. The last batch of balusters for the attic railing arrived today, though, so that will probably be this weekend’s project.

Development

According to the Ovia app, BunBun is now the size of a motorcycle helmet. (I’m guessing they mean in length, not all-around size.) He’s around 17 inches long and weighs about 3.5 pounds; this is less than the doctor’s weight estimate, but she did say that it’s very easy to misjudge such things. His lanugo (furry coat) is going to start falling off this week as his increasing fat content will begin to keep him warm instead. His eyes are in place and he can open them, but his vision will continue to develop until around week 34.

Symptoms My Pregnancy Experience

I realized the word “symptoms” makes it sound like I’m ill, so I changed the title of this section.

First trimester tiredness has come back this week. I still have an “innie”! Well, more accurately, I’ve dubbed it a “flushie” as it’s flush with the rest of my belly. I’ve also noticed that the added weight is really starting to have an effect on me in the mornings. I take a lot more time sitting up and swinging my legs to the floor. It’s all worth it when he rewards us with kicks and movements throughout the day, though. Until next week…stay warm!
