27 weeks already?!

In the last week, we’ve been letting Mother Nature dictate what we worked on. After all, we only have so many 40-degree days left, so we had to use them strategically. On the few sunny, warm days we had, Kurt finished painting some wood that we’ll use to make interior storm windows in a few weeks, and I cleaned off the porch (which, unfortunately becomes our “workspace” every summer). On two of the crummier days, we installed the railings in our attic. (The balusters have yet to be installed, but that’s the easy part!) The “attic” is actually more of a finished space than an attic; the plan is for it to serve as a bedroom at some point. At the moment, though, it’s a storage place for all of the things that do not yet have a home downstairs.

One item did manage to make its way out of the attic and into our living space last week was…BunBun’s cradle! The cradle my stepdad made about 20 years ago (pictured at right) from locally-sourced cherry wood is now in our bedroom. Since that’s where BunBun will be sleeping the first few months, we wanted to get it cleaned up and make sure we made enough room for it while we have the time/energy.

On a non-house related note, we attended an amazing concert on Sunday — Rodrigo y Gabriela performed at “The Egg” in Albany. It was in a small, intimate theater that made it feel like we were all listening in at one of their rehearsals. BunBun was awake and kicking for a good deal of it…glad he likes our taste in music so far!

Development

BunBun is now the size of a camping lantern, about 15 inches long, and weighs over 2 pounds. His eyes are opening and closing with ease, and his brain is developing at a rapid pace, readying itself to control his own body and movements once he is born. Our 28th week starts tomorrow, which means we’re entering the third trimester, so he’s two-thirds of the way to the finish line!

Symtoms

Although my energy level is still decent, I have to pace myself a bit more when Kurt and I are working on multi-hour projects. Otherwise, shortness of breath sets in. I also woke up several times during the nights last week, mostly due to the dry heat that our forced-air furnace pumps into our bedroom. A humidifier is in definitely in our future.

Fun with the Pups

I realized that I should have put this hilarious photo in our post a couple weeks ago. It was taken on November 4th. I convinced Kurt to play with the dogs on the floor since we don’t often do that, but they LOVE it! After a few minutes of horsing around, Goji found herself standing with her hind paws to the right of Kurt’s abdomen and her front paws to Kurt’s left. To see what she would do with this command, I told her to “sit”. She thought about it for a second, stepped up onto Kurt’s belly with her hind legs…and sat. Kurt and I laughed hysterically for a solid minute — all the while, Goji stayed in her sitting position, waiting for a treat.
