20 Weeks

We are halfway to meeting BunBun!

The last week has been a bit of a blur of painful chewing (ugh, braces!), but we did have some bright spots. Marc and Lynn came up on Saturday. Kurt and Marc put shelves up in our shed (so we can start moving our tools up there from what will be our guest room) and then went golfing; meanwhile, Lynn and I shopped in Albany and found some super comfy maternity clothes and a warm coat that will actually fit me this winter. Yay!

Then, we had our second ultrasound on Monday (pics below). BunBun was moving around constantly so it took the tech an hour to get all the measurements she needed. Hilariously, he didn’t miss an opportunity to present “his goods”. The tech told us he is a happy, active boy that is clearly not shy! He’s in the 89th-percentile of babies at this stage and apparently weighs about 4 ounces more than expected, so they estimate the due date could be as early as February 7th.

Development

BunBun is now the size of a paper airplane, about 6.5 inches long from crown to bum, and he weighs about 10.5 ounces. A new bit of news today is that he is about 10 inches long from crown to toe; now that he’s stretched out a bit, full-length measurements can be estimated. He is still practicing breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid. He’s also swallowing a good deal of it – multiple ounces a day! He is sprouting teeth buds underneath his gums while his lips, eyelashes, and eyebrows are starting to take shape.

Symptoms

Nothing significant this week. I am definitely gaining weight, though. I caught a glimpse of myself in a reflective window on an ice cream run one night and was surprised to see how big I’ve become. Because our bedroom is currently spread all over the house while we work on it — and our full length mirror is in our attic — I don’t have a chance to see myself from the waist down. Fun little surprise!
