17 Weeks

How are we at 17 already?!

I caved this week and bought a couple pairs of maternity jeans – what a wonderful invention! (Kurt came shopping with me and held the armload of things for me to try on. What a guy!) Combined with the maternity clothes that Kristin loaned to me, I now have a comfy and presentable wardrobe to choose from that actually fits.

The doors to the nursery and guest room are still underway. I was able to practice my spackling skills to cover the holes above each door frame that result from openings that are way too big for normal doors. I think I’m getting better at it. Paint stripping, painting, and carving out hinges stand between us and having the new doors hung. We also tackled the huge piece of trim that goes around our main staircase opening this week. Once that was done, we were able to put our main railing back up! (I won’t share how long we’ve gone without it being there.)

Development

BunBun is now the size of a PS3 remote or a pomegranate, about five inches long from crown to bum. That seems so big all of a sudden! His senses are developing quickly, and his brain is beginning to coordinate with his other developing systems. For instance, it’s starting to regulate his heartbeat instead of letting it beat willy-nilly like it has been. Soft cartilage that makes up his skeleton is turning into bone. His arms and legs have reached their normal proportions and will continue to grow at a constant rate from here on out.

Symptoms

While my dreams are typically very strange, they’ve been getting crazier lately – or I’m just remembering them better. Either way, I’m relieved to wake up and realize reality still exists. Other than that, another easy and energetic week!
