We’re now 15 weeks along and…IT’S A BOY!!!

I filled a stupid number of balloons with helium on Saturday in anticipation of a BBQ with our parents, Matt, and Vinny that afternoon. I had the owner of our local store stuff the appropriate balloons (pink or blue based on a note from our doctor) into a box for us. Meanwhile, Kurt cleaned the grill and made sure we had enough chairs for everyone. My great-uncle made an appearance just in time for the food. After we all stuffed our faces, Kurt and I opened the box to find blue balloons!!! All of the ladies present had guessed it was a boy; the only people that guessed girl were Kurt, Matt, Marc, and Steve.

We celebrated the new information with a delicious chocolate-on-chocolate cake that Lynn made, complete with little plastic yellow duckies on top!

Not much actually changed in the moment we found out it was a boy. We’re not going to paint everything blue or do anything differently than if the baby was a girl. I suppose the biggest benefit to finding out is not having to consider the half of baby names intended for girls! Although, it’s less than half since so many names can be for boys and girls. Moving on…

Development

BunBun is now the size of a box of crayons or an avocado, about 4 inches long from crown to bum. BunBun is practicing breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid – helping his lungs develop air sacs that well allow him to breathe oxygen. His face is beginning to look remarkably human and his legs are finally longer than his arms. His little heart is supposedly capable of pumping 25 quarts of blood a day! Although his eyelids are currently fused shut, he can sense light. Some sources say that if we hold a flashlight up to my belly, BunBun will attempt to avoid the light by moving – we have yet to try that.
